The Rio Gaia Inn is a quality homestay in the nicest part of Rio--Ipanema near Copacabana--just 3 blocks from the beach (Ipanema, Arpoador, Copacabana, Lagoa all walkable), 1 block from the Metro, great restaurants, handicrafts and produce markets, juice bars, excellent supermarkets, banks and more.
We rent two private rooms on the second floor of our duplex apartment, which share a spacious and attractive common living room, bathroom, varanda, and washing facilities.
We pride ourselves on offering personalized attention and being hospitable, clean and safe. The lower floor is occupied by a small family of 3 including the owner, Theresa, and a friendly dog. We are an ideal homestay for families, researchers, journalists, and anyone interested in Rio's development patterns. Check below for discounts.
Rio Gaia Inn is an eco-friendly option, given proximity to public transit, walking distance from Ipanema, Copacabana & Lagoon, walk-up (no elevator), fans rather than AC, recycling facilities, access to kitchen, organic farmers' market, and more.
Theresa is a town planner and runs an NGO that works with community leaders from shantytowns across Rio. She was born in the UK but raised in Brazil and the United States. She can provide informal support to researchers, volunteers and visitors interested in local culture, favelas, & politics. You can get more out of your time in Rio by living with folks who know the city!
We offer modern facilities and comforts such as Wifi, a fan in each room, a modern kitchen with free fruit, teas and coffee. Room cleaning including towel switches occurs twice weekly. Guests have access to clothes washing facilities, kitchen, and 2 living areas. Entering Rio Gaia Inn feels like arriving home.
We are on Rua Barão da Torre in Ipanema, a 5-minute walk to the beach, yet only blocks from Copacabana. We are located 2 blocks from our friends at the Rio Dolphin Inn. As they explain: "While most of Rio’s neighborhoods such as Santa Teresa, Lapa, Botafogo, Urca and downtown are fascinating and worthy of a visit, only Ipanema and Copacabana have it all. Rio is a huge city--12 million people—and though it is fun to visit these other neighborhoods and attractions, you really want to stay in a place that is centrally located, where there are cool neighborhoods to explore, where you can walk out at night and visit local restaurants, cafes and bars, where it’s fun to get around on foot or bike, and where—perhaps most important-- you are by the beach." In this case, you actually have your choice of four beaches within a few minutes walk from Rio Gaia Inn: Copacabana, Ipanema, Diabo and Arpoador. What more could you want?
